Having quickly built to the task this time in, Gai Waterhouse-trained gelding Pheidon has opened as and maintained favouritism in betting markets for success in the 2014 Rough Habit Plate, currently offered at a quote of $3.60, ahead of Telepathic ($4.20), Glorious Lad ($6) and Rudy ($8).

Will Pheidon continue his strong run of form in the 2014 Rough Habit Plate, or will one of his talented rivals find the post first?

1st

Pheidon ($3.60)

Claiming three wins and three places from only seven competitive starts to date, Pheidon offers punters sensational value for money at current $3.60 odds. Claiming back-to-back victories upon debuting on track in December, the Al Maher gelding has continued to build in form an class; strolling home to win the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) on March 14th, and while unlucky to finish sixth when blocked for a run in the Group 2 Nathan Berry Tulloch Stakes (2000m) on April 5th, returning to impressive form when second to in-form stayer Arabian Gold in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) last time out. Allocated the ideal inside barrier, Pheidon will be partnered by leading jockey Nash Rawiller and will be particularly difficult to beat in the 2014 Rough Habit Plate.

2nd

Telepathic ($4.20)

Confirmed to make her debut appearance in Australia in this weekend’s Rough Habit Plate, talented kiwi raider Telepathic has fast shot to the forefront of the up-and-coming staying community in her native New Zealand, particularly this season in claiming an impressive two victories from as many starts. Trainer Donna Logan has already experienced success in Australian in 2014; saddling Rising Romance to victory in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) on April 12th, and is confident the young Mossman filly will record a similarly impressive run from the central barrier 7 this weekend.

3rd

Glorious Lad ($6)

Finishing outside the places just once in nine competitive starts to date, fellow kiwi raider Glorious Lad arguably offers punters the best value for money in betting markets for the 2014 Rough Habit Plate at current $6 odds, or $2.20 for a place. A mainstay in highly rated events in his homeland, the Falkirk gelding has arguably hit career best form over his most recent run of appearances; finishing third in the Group 2 Avondale Guineas (2100m) on February 15th before displaying a keen turn of foot to place an impressive third in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) most notable on March 1st. Allocated the ideal barrier 6, Glorious Lad will be partnered by in-form jockey James McDonald and is more than a chance of success this weekend.
