On Saturday the John Bary-trained The Hombre was declared the winner of the $125,000 Group 3 Rough Habit Plate (2020m) at Doomben Racecourse.
The Hombre ($5.50) was second over the line after Peter Moody’s colt Tee Emar ($5), but after connections lodged a protest that was upheld the three-year-old Lucky Owners gelding was deemed the winner.
Tee Emar and jockey Luke Nolen were found to have moved around the field, bumping into The Hombre and Kiwi jump jockey Jonathan Riddell around the 250m mark, the interference preventing The Hombre from winning.
The official result was The Hombre first by a short neck, Tee Emar second and the Kelly Doughty-trained Sanderson ($10) in an eye-catching third one and a half lengths back.

Albert The Fat was the surprise winner of the day’s scheduled highlight, the $400,000 Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m), while Crossthestart won the other group feature at the meeting, the $100,000 Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap (2020m).
The next big event on the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival calendar is the $500,000 Group 1 Doomben Cup (2020m) next Saturday, where Metal Bender is the current $3 favourite with leading online bookmaker IASbet.
